Kristensen takes pole at Oschersleben

The Dane Tom Kristensen has taken pole position for the race tommorow at the Motopark Oschersleben. The qualifying was cut short to a 30 minutes session without the usual Super Pole-qualifying, after the qualifying had already been delayed for 40 minutes. Just before qualifying was set to start a tropical storm flooded the circuit.

On some parts of the circuit the water was standing knee-high, as a result of which the cars could not run. After intensive work around the circuit to dry the track, the cars had 30 minutes to qualify.

Tom Kristensen eventually set the fastest time on the drying track. His teammate Martin Tomczyk was second fastest. The two Audi-drivers battled eachother for victory last year at Oschersleben as well. Championship leader Mattias Ekström set fifth fastest time.

Gary Paffett was the fastest Mercedes driver on P3. He was just faster than Jamie Green in the Persson Mercedes. The biggest disappointment was for Jean Alesi and Mika Häkkinen, who damaged his car after spinning off. The two Mercedes drivers ended up on the last row of the grid.

Due to the drying track the Opel squad weren’t able to suprise. Laurent Aiello was able to set sixth fastest time, but Fässler, Reuter and Frentzen all ended up outside the top ten. Frentzen had some damage to his car as well after spinning off.
