Vallelunga day three

In the morning session of the third day of DTM testing at Vallelunga, Italy, Jamie Green set the fastest lap time. In the very last seconds of the session, the 23-year old Briton set a 1:28.694-minute-lap to take the lead, in his AMG-Mercedes C-Class, with Green’s team-mate, Bernd Schneider, coming second.

The native Saarlander covered a total of 47 laps at the 4.067-kilometre circuit and set his fastest time (1:28.853 minutes) in his penultimate lap.

For the major part of the session, the Audi drivers dominated the action, with Mattias Ekström, Tom Kristensen and Audi’s new signing, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, alternating on the top of the time sheets. When the session was over, at 13.00hrs, Audi A4 DTM drivers Ekström and Kristensen held third and fourth places respectively, while Frentzen finished sixth behind another new Audi signing, Timo Scheider – and 1.0633 seconds behind the quickest.

In the early stages of the session that was held under overcast skies, the track was still wet and the drivers opted for a more conservative attitude. Yet, the track dried more and more, during the course of the morning, thus offering the DTM aces the opportunity to really go for it. Therefore, Jamie Green’s quickest lap was just 0.381 seconds slower than the one Bruno Spengler had set on Tuesday.
