Ekström is rallying in Germany

This Thursday, DTM ace Mattias Ekström opened a new chapter in his motor racing career. The Audi works driver is going to contest the 25th ‘OMV ADAC Rallye Deutschland’ at the wheel of the Fabia WRC entered by team Red Bull Skoda. A welcome change for the Swede who races an Audi A4 DTM in DTM.

Tested the Fabia WRC in Austria: Mattias EkströmTo be well prepared when starting into the German World Rally Championship round, Ekström completed some tests at the wheel of the Fabia WRC. “The testing offered me the chance of adapting to the car and learning how it handles,” revealed Ekström.

“I will try to drive quickly and as faultlessly as possible. Should I succeed in doing so, a good result should be possible. Quite obviously, it would be a dream come true if I could score a World Championship point.” Former WRC driver Armin Schwarz, now Red Bull Skoda’s Team Manager, also is confident. “Mattias is a driver who has got what it needs to secure a good result for our team,” he said.

The rally will start on 10th August with the shakedown, held close to the northern service park at the ‘Bostalsee’. Following the show start on Thursday evening, things will get serious on Friday. The competitors will have to contest 19 special stages with a total mileage of 351.55 kilometres. On Sunday noon, they will reach the finish located at the ‘Porta Nigra’ in Trier.

After the ‘Rallye Deutschland’, Mattias won’t have a lot of time to relax, as the second half of the DTM season will begin at the following weekend, on 20th August, at the Nürburgring.
