DTM drivers at AFC Ajax
Today DTM-drivers Bernd Schneider (Mercedes) and Timo Scheider (Audi) visited the Dutch football club AFC Ajax from Amsterdam. Despite the rain the two drivers took part in the practise in the Amsterdam ArenA, the homeground of the 29 times Dutch champions.
“The practise was alot of fun”, Mercedes-Benz driver Bernd Schneider said. “It’s very impressive what these guys can do with a ball.” Audi-driver Timo Scheider was just as impressed as his fellow collegue-driver. “It was a real special day for me today. I’ve never had the chance to practise with a proffesional football team and i’m very greatfull to Ajax that they have given me this opportunity.
At the end of the practise, both drivers had the chance to take some penaltykicks, with goalie Dennis Gentenaar under the bar. “Motorsport is a real teamsport, just like football, even though my team is not so much in the spotlights, because they work in the pits”, said Schneider. “But still you can only win in motorsport, just like in football, when everything matches perfectly together.”
At the press conference afterwards, Erik Weijers, event manager of the Zandvoort track, also emphasized that besides the race coming sunday, there will also be challenge between three Red Bull-sponsored cars. A Audi DTM-car, Sebastian Vettel in a Formula 3-car and Dutchman Robert Doornbos in the Red Bull RB2 Formula 1-car will race eachother at the Dutch track in the dunes.
