Green – The Pole Position King
Jamie Green’s qualifying record looks impressive: in four of the seven DTM rounds contested in the 2006 season so far, the Briton secured pole position. In spite of contesting his only second DTM season, Green has already been the pole-sitter for six DTM races.
That means that he is holding a position in the upper third of the DTM record books – and ahead of household names such as Johnny Cecotto (5 poles), the 1991 champion Frank Biela (5 poles) and 1990 champion Hans-Joachim Stuck (4 poles). His worst qualifying result this year: fifth position at the Nürburgring. In the qualifying sessions for all the other races, the 24-year old secured a first-row grid position.
Jamie Green: usually too quick for his rivals, in the qualifyingIn the races, however, he failed to confirm his great qualifying results. With 17 DTM races under his belt, he still waits for his maiden win. “It’s true, my race results quite clearly didn’t meet my expectations,” admits the Briton.
“In spite of having been the pole-sitter for four races I failed to secure a DTM win. That’s a disappointment.” In DTM’s debut appearance at Brands Hatch, he came very close to clinching his maiden win. At the end of the exhausting 85-lap race, he crossed the line just 5.9 seconds behind the winner, Mattias Ekström, thus finishing runner-up.
But the 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series champion still has got another three chances of securing his maiden DTM win, this year. “I’m convinced that I’m going to make it,” he says with a lot of self confidence. Prior to the forthcoming round, held at Barcelona, Green has got 20 points on his tally and holds fifth position in the Drivers’ Championship.
“I have to give my very best, deliver on a consistent level and score as many points as possible. I hope this will be enough to also secure my first win. And then I will see what position I will have achieved, when the season is over.”
