Klaus Ludwig sad for Ekström

Former DTM-champion Klaus Ludwig was saddened by the decision of the race control to penalize Mattias Ekström for his manouvre on Bernd Schneider for second place.

Ludwig, whose currently co-commentator on German television for DTM-races, is sometimes critisized for being to much pro Mercedes, because of his Mercedes-past, but proved otherwise today.

“Okay, Ekström touched Schneider a little bit on the back, but he didn’t put him into a spin and he didn’t make him lose more positions”, Ludwig said. “It really isn’t necessary to punish him this hard. He was much faster and had a big chance on winning the race. This will surely make him very sad, it certainly makes me sad.”

And Mattias Ekström was sad indeed. “After my second pitstop I had to overtake Schneider again. He braked very hard, at the time I already was accelerating again. I got a drive through penalty for that, what is really unbelievable”, Ekström commentated. His boss, Dr. Ullrich, was more diplomatic, although he showed . “I have no comment to the decision of the race control and you simply have to accept it.”
