DTM getting ready for Le Mans
This Tuesday in Le Mans, DTM introduced itself to the French media to put the attendant journalists into the right mood for the race scheduled for 17th October. Following last weekend’s successful DTM debut appearance at Barcelona, the series is now going to celebrate its next premiere: at Le Mans.
For the first time in its history, DTM will be racing at the Sarthe. Tom Kristensen, Vanina Ickx (both Audi) and championship leader Bernd Schneider (Mercedes-Benz) posed for the photographers on the market square. The two Audi and Mercedes-Benz race taxis topped the picture off and after the press conference, they were used for demonstration rides with journalists on the passenger seats.
”I’m truly looking forward to racing at Le Mans,” said seven-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen. “It has been the venue of many great successes, for me, and there’s still a tiny chance for me to win the title. I’m going to try to keep these chances alive, at Le Mans to still be in a position to battle for the title in the season finale, at Hockenheim.”
At the same time, DTM Record Champion Bernd Schneider is fully aware that he mustn’t rest on his laurels in spite of holding an 18-point lead over the second placed Dane. “The season isn’t over yet,” the German admits. “There still are two races to go and everything can happen. Therefore, I mustn’t be too confident. We will keep on working in our usual, focused way.”
