Spengler wants runner-up position
He is one of the climbers, if not the climber of the 2006 season. The young Mercedes-Benz driver, racing for HWA since the beginning pf the current season, succeeded in securing his first two DTM wins, this year, and currently holds third championship position.
For the two races still to contest, at Le Mans and the Hockenheimring, the Franco-Canadian has set himself an ambitious goal – to move up to the runner-up position.
”At Barcelona, I had a perfect strategy and a great race and could finish fifth,” says Spengler. “A really vital result as I’m holding third championship position, now. In the forthcoming round, held at Le Mans where he has been racing already back in 2003 in the Formula 3 Euro Series, he wants to make a major step to finishing the season as runner-up. “I like the circuit although turn one has been revamped. Let’s see what is possible at Le Mans. I’m looking forward to the race and I hope that it attracts many French spectators.”
Still, it will be anything but easy to defeat Kristensen just at the circuit where the Dane celebrated the biggest successes of his career by winning the Le Mans 24-Hour race seven times. “It’s difficult to say how my chances will be. After all, it will be the first time that I’m going to race at Le Mans with a DTM car,” reveals Spengler. “But one thing is clear: I’m going to give my very best to achieve my goal.”
