Ickx crash halts free practice

Vanina Ickx crashed violently during the free practice today at Hockenheim, stopping the session. Ickx lost control of her car at the approach to the Spitzkehre-hairpin doing over 250 km/h. She had just before the incident switched to slicks on the drying track.

The Audi crashed in to the barriers head on and sustained a lot of damage. Ickx was able to walk away from the car and seemed uninjured. Martin Tomczyk was fastest of the field before the session was stopped ahead of his Audi-colleagues Christian Abt and Mattias Ekström. Best Mercedes-driver was Mika Häkkinen in fourth place ahead of Bruno Spengler.
