Lauda looking for DTM success

25 year old Mathias Lauda moved from GP2 to DTM for the 2006 season. Speculations have long been going that he will follow his fathers, Niki Lauda, footsteps in Formula One. But recently Mathias played down the speculations of him chasing a F1-seat.

“I never said I did not want to get into Formula One, but I never said I wanted to do it at all costs either,” Mathias Lauda said to GMM.

Instead the plan is to go for success in the DTM.

“I have now been racing for four years, and I want to have success in DTM.”

In his home country, Austria, the press is not even looking his way, according to Mathias who is currently living in Spain.

“I do wonder about that. I think they are more interested in Formula One – in Christian Klien and the (Austrian based) Red Bull team,” Mathias said to sport1.at.

This season Lauda raced for Team Persson Motorsport in a 2004 spec’ Mercedes C-Class. His best result during the season was not within the points.
