Paffett to race year-old car
Gary Paffett will most likely make his return to the Deutche Tourenwagen Masters in a 2006 spec’ Mercedes C-Class. The four drivers aimed for the 2007 spec’ cars is not likely to change – Schneider, Spengler, Häkkinen and Green.
“We learned in December that Gary was interested in coming back to the DTM. We had no reason to change any of our drivers and I would expect no surprises in the four HWA cars,” Norbert Haug said to Autosport.
The Persson team is expected to run Paffetts car during the 2007 season. Paffett has not signed a deal yet, but is considering the option and wants to get back on the racing tracks again.
“Obviously it’s not the perfect situation but I am considering it. It’s all about me getting back into racing this year,” Paffett said.
Haug thinks that Paffett can win in a year-old car.
“If you are a real superstar, you can win in a year-old car. Gary is a real star and he can do a good job,” Haug said.
