Time penalty for Bruno Spengler
Because of the collision with Timo Scheider on the final lap of the race, Bruno Spengler has been given a time penalty of 50 seconds. The stewards decided that there was an infringement of Article 1 of the DTM sporting regulations combined with an infringement of Article 21e of the event regulations.
In the explanation, it reads that after getting off the track, Spengler had obstructed Scheider, preventing him from completing an overtaking manoeuvre. Allegedly, this manoeuvre had already been half completed.
Contrarily to Spengler’s view that he hadn’t been able to do anything, the stewards thought otherwise. Thus, Spengler loses his third place and drops back to 14th in the classification.
The HWA team has lodged appeal against this decision. The 50 seconds’ time penalty made Spengler drop back from third to 15th place. Whether the penalty against Spengler will be held upright, will be decided by the sporting court of the German motor sport federation DMSB at a later time. Up to that point, the published results will remain provisional.
