Häkkinen continues with Mercedes

Mercedes have announced that Mika Häkkinen continues in the Deutche Tourenwagen Masters 2007. After his disappointing 2006 season rumours indicated that he would leave DTM and Mercedes.
“It’s nice to continue being part of the Mercedes-Benz motorsport family,” Hakkinen said. “It is important to continue my long-standing, successful partnership with them.”

“My results in 2006 don’t reflect our true potential and my target is to rectify that. I want to show what I am capable of in the DTM. My three podium finishes and two fastest race laps indicate that the speed is there. I can fight for victories if everything runs without problems.”

Mercedes-Benz Motorsport vice president Norbert Haug feels that Häkkinen continuing means a lot to both Mercedes and the entire DTM.

“It’s good news that Mika will continue in the DTM. He will strengthen our team, and his continued involvement will boost the entire series. Mika has been in the spotlight of all media and spectators interest since his first lap in the DTM. I am convinced that in 2007 his fans will see the best of him,” Haug said.
