Mercedes-Benz also dominating in 2nd test
Mercedes-Benz drivers also dominated proceedings in the second test of the DTM at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. With the fabulous time of 1:19.380 minutes, Bruno Spengler clearly outpaced the opposition with his 2007-spec AMG Mercedes C-Class. His margin over fellow-Mercedes driver Paul di Resta with his C-Class from 2005 was unusually huge: the Canadian was no less than 0.551 seconds faster.
The next three positions were also occupied by Mercedes-Benz drivers with Daniel la Rosa, Gary Paffett and Mika Häkkinen. Fastest Audi driver was Adam Carroll in sixth place with his car of the 2005 generation. On his quickest lap, the Briton lost 0.809 seconds on front runner Spengler.
After 90 minutes, the drivers with 2007-spec Audi A4 DTMs were well down the order: after the second test on Friday afternoon, Mattias Ekström, Timo Scheider and Martin Tomczyk were only eleventh, twelfth and 18th respectively. A matter of weight, as at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, the 2007-spec Audis are 28 kg heavier than the current Mercedes-Benz C-Classes. Markus Winkelhock, standing in for Tom Kristensen, ended up 17th.
