Scheider sets the pace at Zandvoort
In the second test of the DTM on Friday, Timo Scheider set the pace as well. With the Audi A4 DTM, the German improved his fastest time from the first session by more than eight tenths of a second and set a fastest lap time of 1:34.569 minutes. Once again, Scheider’s team-mate Tom Kristensen had to make do with second place. With Mike Rockenfeller in third and Alexandre Prémat in fourth position, two more Audi drivers followed. Fastest Mercedes-Benz driver was Paul di Resta in fifth. The Scot was 0.537 seconds down on Scheider.
As the fastest driver with a 2007-spec AMG Mercedes C-Class, Bruno Spengler improved his lap time in the afternoon by more than eight tenths of a second as well. The Canadian’s fastest lap time, 1.35.148 minutes, was enough for sixth position. Four other Mercedes-drivers, namely Daniel la Rosa, Gary Paffett, Mika Häkkinen and Jamie Green, completed the top ten.
Other than in the morning, when the DTM drivers drove only few laps at the 4.307 kilometres long race track in the dunes of the Dutch holiday resort of Zandvoort, the second test session was mainly about long runs. The most prolific driver was Jamie Green, who completed 39 laps, one more than scheduled for the race on Sunday. Points leader Mattias Ekström, who was 14th, completed an entire race distance with 38 laps.
