DTM aces to contest Race Of Champions

DTM aces Mattias Ekström and Tom Kristensen are going to also contest the 2007 edition of the Race of Champions: on 16th December, 2007, in the Wembley Stadium, the two Audi works drivers will again be involved in the clash of international top stars from touring-car racing, single-seater racing and rallying. Ekström will travel to London as reigning champion. Last year, the Swede defeated three-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb.

In the last round of the event held in Paris’ Stade de France, Ekström beat the French at the wheel of the latter’s rally car. And in 2005, Ekström won the nations’ rankings together with Kristensen.

”I’m delighted with having the opportunity to again contest the Race of Champions together with Tom,” says Mattias Ekström. “Last year’s triumph was a great moment in my career as racing driver – now I want to defend my title in Wembley.” And Kristensen adds: “It’s a truly great show and it goes without saying that you want to win. Still, we don’t take the competition too serious. First of all, we want to enjoy the atmosphere.”

The Race of Champions is contested by nation teams – formed by two drivers – from Great Britain, Scotland, France, Germany, Finland, Spain and the USA, with Ekström and Kristensen representing Team Scandinavia. Apart from Ekström and Kristensen, other motor-racing top stars such as World Rally Champion Colin McRae or the Formula One drivers David Coulthard, Jenson Button and Michael Schumacher also will be on the ROC grid. To date, it has not yet been determined who Michael Schumacher will join forces with for Team Germany. In 2006, reigning DTM Champion Bernd Schneider and rally ace Armin Schwarz represented the German colours.
