New rules for the DTM in 2009?
According to our information the Deutche Tourenwagen Masters is heading for new rules for the 2009 season. The major change is supposed to be a uniform monococque for all cars with only the body shell and engine being different between the cars. Currently the two manufacturers competing in the DTM, Audi and Mercedes, have their own constructed bodyshells and monocoques.
The reason for the change is belived to be the fact that many manufacturers are reluctant to join the DTM since the current rules are so complicated and hard to become compettetive in. The DTM has also been criticized for having little over taking, something that the aerodynamic rules are blaimed for.
And the aerodynamic rules are reported to be one of the main things to be changed along with the uniform monocoque. The current rules allow for very small wings all over the cars that are very sensetive and fragile.
Engine wise there are no major changes planned, the four litre V8 with air restrictor will remain. As for the other parts, gearbox, electronics, tyres and brakes will remain standardized for all cars while more components are reported to be standardized.
