HWA and Mücke set their appeals aside
Teams HWA and Mücke do without appealing against the decisions made by the stewards during the previous DTM round, held at Barcelona.
From today’s point of view, the hearing that must be held in Spain can’t be guaranteed to be held prior to the season finale at Hockenheim, because of time limits. The appeal against the disqualifications and the ten-position grid penalties for Häkkinen and de la Rosa would have had delaying effect for Hockenheim and would have meant that the drivers would have started from the grid positions secured in qualifying. And in the case of the respective season finale race results, this could have resulted in the situation that no champion could have been celebrated, at Hockenheim.
Therefore, the two teams opted for setting their appeals aside for the good of the sport although their legal advisers were of the opinion that the chances of success were promising.
Both teams point out hat the respective race accidents were incidents that happen every now and then, in touring car racing and stated explicitly that these incidents weren’t the result of deliberate actions. Both teams are of the opinion that the degree of penalty isn’t in due proportion to the respective offence.
