Mixed emotions from teambosses
There were mixed emotions from the teambosses at Hockenheim after qualifying today. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich was obviously pleased with Audi’s performance while his colleague Norbert Haug felt they could have done better after a strong showing in the first of the three qualifying rounds.
“I think Jamies performance was quite good, especially considering the extra 10 kg in his car which is worth around two tenths extra per lap”, he said. “Audi was strong today but we got six cars in the top 10. But the positions are not ideal for tomorrow, Bruno Spengler and Bernd Schneider are a little too far behind.”
Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich was more pleased but was cautious to take anything for granted despite having an Audi 1-2-3 in todays qualifying. “Today was a good step for us with four cars in top 5, he said. Our title contenders are ahead of Bruno Spengler but things can change quickly and we never celebrate before it’s over. I think Martin is probably a bit disappointed though. I know he expected a lot more than fifth place today. But as we know, everything can change quickly here. We had a good qualifying and it’s very nice Tom is back here in his old form after his accident.”
Both team bosses also empathized they want to see a fair and clean race tomorrow after everything that happened at the last race in Barcelona. “We want a fair sport, a fair competition tomorrow”, Norbert Haug said. “A lot of people said DTM was dead after Barcelona but just looking at the crowd here today and the number of tickes sold for tomorrow I think that is far from the truth. We have a great show here and want to show everyone a fair race.”
