A lap around Hockenheim with Ekström
When Mattias crossed the finish line on Sunday to secure his second Deutche Tourenwagen Masters-title, it was the start of a long evening turning in to a long night. But eventually, after a few hours sleep, Mattias returned to Hockenheim the day after to reflect on that last lap and the race.
“It’s an incredible feeling now that it’s over, he says. I tried to enjoy the race but I couldn’t. It was so hard and there was so much pressure. From me, all the people in the grandstands and everyone. And I have a lot of friends and family here and everyone wants to celebrate – my parents are here, Tina, friends from Sweden, the whole team,” said Ekström and continued.
“It’s a strange feeling when the adrenalin is leaving the body, it will take some time for all this to sink in. But I am so very happy, and I want to thank my whole team, all the teammates and fans and everyone who has given me support. I will never forget this race, we did it and I’m so happy, he finishes.”
