Christijan Albers to test Audi A4 DTM
Dutch media report today that Christijan Albers will test a DTM car this week. The 28-year old driver will be testing a Audi A4 DTM at the Spanish track of Almeira. It will be the return of Albers to DTM, after he left the series at the end of 2004 to switch to Formula 1. The DTM test of Albers implies that his options of returning to F1 have shrunk.
Albers is eager to be in a car again. “I want to show my speed, eventhough I don’t have to prove it. Anything is possible”, Albers comments. The Dutch driver will test in a 2006 car. There are still four seats up for grabs at Audi, although one of them is likely to go to a female driver. However, there are no works seats available anymore.
Albers has been succesfull in the DTM, before he left the series in 2004. In 2003 he was promoted to a works seat at Mercedes, after Uwe Alzen left the HWA squad just before the season start. Albers showed great performance and finished second in the championship, just behind Bernd Schneider. In 2004 he fought for the title together with Gary Paffett and Mattias Ekström. Albers finished the season in third, with Ekström taking the title.
