Ralf Schumacher could still go DTM
Previous Formula One race winner Ralf Schumacher could still be on the way to the Deutche Tourenwagen Masters 2008. It now looks set that Schumacher will not be behind the wheel of an F1-car next year, not even at the all new Force India-team.
“I would like to have something, but the team will start from scratch and would therefore the right thing for me,” said Schumacher to Stuttgarter.
We earlier reported about Schumacher going to Audi in DTM, something that was heavily denied by the German manufacturer.
“There is absolutely no need for us to do that. It’s our goal to get young and ambitious drivers and let them grow within our team. Martin Tomczyk, Mattias Ekström and even Tom Kristensen came to us as “nobodies”. And now they are very popular and famous,” said Rupert Stadler, chairman of Audi.
But when previous F1-driver Mika Häkkinen left the DTM, the need for a F1-driver in the championship has grown larger. But one of the main issues for Schumacher is the salary. In F1, driving for Toyota, Schumacher made around 14 million Euro per season, more than all 20 DTM drivers together.
But reports indicate that as the season is getting closer and closer for Schumacher, who still is without a drive, he could settle for less. The German has denied going to Le Mans, Indy 500 or the Dakar Rally.
“You will not see me on an oval, no matter what car, and I will never go to Le Mans or the Dakar Rally,” said Schumacher.
Will we see Ralf Schumacher in DTM with Audi after 11 years in Formula One?
Stay tuned!
