A lot of focus on Ralf Schumacher
Ralf Schumacher has got a lot of focus on him this year. The previous Formula One Toyota-driver makes his Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters debut in one and a half month and says that he knows that he will be judged hard on his initial results.
“I’m going to learn the DTM trade, I’m going to really apply to the task waiting for me and I will cope with it when being criticised should I fail to shine in the first races,” said Schumacher.
“Quite obviously I’m aware that neither the media nor the spectators regard me as the greatest racing driver of all times – but this never has been my goal. I was largely unsuccessful, in this period of time and it truly sounded a kind of strange to me when Norbert Haug mentioned that I had won two GPs within just eight days, a short time earlier,” said Schumacher.
Despite the intensive focus Schumacher is looking forward to his new “home” in DTM with Mercedes-Benz.
“I like the series, I like the environment – I like the enthusiastic and positive crowds. And I like Mercedes – after all, they offered me my first chance of testing a Formula 1 car and who knows how my Formula 1 career would have developed had I signed the McLaren Mercedes test driver deal I was offered in 1997,” he says.
