Christijan Albers confirmed at Futurecom
Christijan Albers has been presented as the second driver at Futurecom TME by the team. The Dutch driver, who has driven succesfully in DTM before, will get the last available seat in a 2006 Audi A4 DTM. He will become the teammate of Katherine Legge. Albers returns to DTM after three years of racing in Formula 1 with Midland and Spyker.
The announcement of Christijan Albers with the Futurecom TME team was long awaited. The Dutch driver had already tested with the team three times, adding fuel to the rumours him being the main candidate for the seat.
At Futurecom TME Albers will meet his old teamboss Colin Kolles, who owns the DTM team. “That was one of the main factors in my decision to join Colin Kolles again and there are a number of people working at the team I also worked with during earlier successes in my carreer”, Albers said. I worked with a lot of these guys in the Formula 3 team of Bertram Schäfer, where I won the F3 championship in 1999.”
“I think working with them will help me enjoying racing again. And I think with that the results will come as well. I realise it won’t be easy at all, but that won’t keep me from fighting hard for it. Apart from that I will be working together with the Belgian engineer Jos Claes, who I also know from the past. He has got years of experience at Dallara and that gives me a great feeling as well.”
“Ofcourse we had some doubts whether it was wise to get into an old car, but on the other hand, is it wise to do nothing for an entire year?”, Albers comments to his seat in the oldest car of the field. “Not being in racing makes people forget about you. Plus Audi gave me the feeling there are possibilities for the future.”
“When Ralf Schumacher is driving an old Mercedes, should I complain about having to drive an old Audi? It kind of suits me, having to fight hard to get back. I’ve done it before”.
