Haug & Ullrich have put Barcelona behind them
After the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race at Barcelona, where Audi pulled out all their cars after indicents with Mercedes-drivers, emotions ran high. Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug and Audi Motorsport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich now seems to have put that behind them.
“The most important thing is that the customer is king of the DTM,” said Haug to Motorsport-Aktuell.
“We need exciting races and the final race last year was a festival of motorsport. I hope that when we start the 2008 season it can be the same,” continued Haug.
After the Barcelona race it sounded completely different with strong emotions from both manufacturers.
“I cannot understand the decision to take the cars out of the race, when we already have a 1-2-3 that we deserved,” said Haug.
“Of course, cars touch on the track in a hard and fair race. But when the contact is the reason that cars retire, it is a form of behaviour that we do not want to see in motorsport. The decision to withdraw the cars from the race was meant to show that we don’t want that,” said Ullrich.
Now, however, Dr Ullrich has put the incident of last year behind him and is completely focused on the DTM premiere and debut of the new Audi A4.
“We are aiming to defend the title. Of course we do not know where we are with the new car. In the DTM it’s particularly important to have a good, fast and reliable car from the outset. This is what we’ve been working on intensively during the past few months,” said Ullrich.
