Race Preview: Next stop Mugello for DTM

Mugello is located north of Florence, in the Tuscany. The venue which is owned by Ferrari is traditionally a Motorbike World Championship track. It returned in 2007 to the DTM calendar.

Previously at Mugello
AMG Mercedes C-Klasse dominated the race with 4 drivers in the top 5 positions. Hakkinen took the lead in race 1 and Ekstrom followed in the only Audi A4 to break into the top 5.

The season so far
Timo Scheider currently leads the drivers championship standings taking his first DTM career win at the Oschersleben Motorsport Arena. Martin Tomczyk is second but without a win so far. Mattias Ekstrom is third after a race win in the season opener, however he only managed to secure 1 point in the second race of the season.

Quotes prior to the race
Mattias Ekström – Red Bull Audi A4 DTM #1 says
“In 2007 I was on pole at Mugello and finished the race as the runner-up. It was one of the best weekends of the year – reason enough for me to look forward to the new round at this circuit.”

Martin Tomczyk – Red Bull Audi A4 DTM #2 says
“I’m looking forward to Mugello. Bella Italia. Nice weather, good food, a great track, a fast A4 – that’s a fine package.”

Oliver Jarvis – Best Buddies Audi A4 DTM #15 says
“A strong qualifying, similar to the one at Oschersleben, and a more fortunate race without a starting accident – that would be fantastic. I like the track and think that the 07-spec Audi cars will be very quick there.”
