Another pole for Timo Scheider
Winner of the last race in Oschersleben, Timo Scheider, has taken pole position for the third race of the DTM season, tomorrow held at Mugello in Italy. The German outpaced Jamie Green, who was the only Mercedes driver able to split the Audi drivers. Green was over three tenths slower than Timo Scheider, but he was just two hundredth quicker than third placed man Tom Kristensen.
It’s the second pole position in succession for Timo Scheider, and the eighth consecutive pole for Audi. However, there is a little light for Mercedes at the horizon, as all four 2008 Mercedes’ qualified for the last part of the qualifying session.
Mattias Ekström, who had shown a good form in the practise sessions so far this weekend, will start from fourth on the grid tommorow. The Swede suffered from tyre problems in qualifying. His team mate Martin Tomczyk had an even worse session, as he only managed to set the twelfth fastest time.
Markus Winkelhock was the only driver in a 2007 car to qualify for the final part of the qualifying session, and will start from eight on the grid tomorrow. Ralf Schumacher was the fastest man in a 2007 Mercedes, after Gary Paffett only managed 15th after a trip through the gravel trap.
