Jamie Green takes first win for Mercedes

Mercedes turned things around at Mugello today when Jamie Green took their first victory of the year! Team mate Paul di Resta took second place ahead of Tom Kristensen who took third for Audi.
“I am happy with this victory, especially after the start of the season that has been particularly difficult for all of us“, said a very happy Green after the race.

Pole man Timo Scheider took the lead quickly in the race, but a bit too quickly. The stewards found him guilty of a jump start and penalised the German with a drive through-penalty. He eventually finished tenth.

Bruno Spengler started sixth but dropped to ninth place in the race after a collision in the opening lap where he lost six places.

While Spengler was unhappy, his Mercedes-colleauge di Resta was far more happy. The Brit started fifth and was able to work his way up to second.

“I reckon that Mercedes-Benz and I can be equally happy with this result. We have been working hard and had to wait for a long time to make it on the podium. The weekend didn’t go that well for me, I was lacking consistency all the time. Yesterday’s qualifying wasn’t too good as I made a slight mistake and had to start from fifth place today. I am all the more happy with my second place,” said di Resta.

Kristensen came home as best Audi-driver today and was happy with both the pitstops and the setup of his A4.

“The DTM is really tough. I am more or less happy with the result and I am happy with being on the podium again. My car was excellent. The team has done two great pit stops. Jamie Green really has deserved this victory, he has driven a great race,” said the Dane.

Bernd Schneider took his best position of the year in fourth position with DTM-newcomer Oliver Jarvis in fifth. Previous championship leader Mattias Ekström took sixth position.
