Paul di Resta on top in free practise

During the last free practise session before qualifying Mercedes has shown they have closed the gap to Audi. Paul di Resta set the fastest lap at the Lausitzring, being the only one to post a lap beneath the 1:19 mark. The Scot set at a time of 1:18.854, just over one and a half tenth faster than second placed man Bruno Spengler. Timo Scheider was the best man in a Audi, setting a lap of 1:19.134.

The difference between the new cars and the one year old cars are now starting to show, as all eight 2008 cars were in the top nine. Only Mike Rockenfeller managed to squeeze his one year old Audi in, claiming seventh place.

Christijan Albers put down a good performance again, as he was the second fastest man in a ‘old’ car. The Dutchman was in tenth place at the end of the session, 0.641s slower than fastest man Di Resta. A big difference from his team mate Katherine Legge, who was down in 18th, over two seconds of the pace.

Qualifying for the race tomorrow will start this afternoon at 13:28 CET.
