Less German races in the 2009 calendar

The DTM is aiming for fewer races in Germany next year. For the first time since the introduction of the “new” DTM in 2000 the calendar seems to become predominantly international. The series is set to have six races outside Germany and just five in the home country.
“Right now nothing is definite, but we hope to have a calendar by August. It is important that we get it right, so that we take the DTM to the right markets,” said Hans-Werner Aufrecht of DTM to Autosport.

It seems like Oscherlseben or EuroSpeedway Lausitz faces the axe next year and could be, according to rumors, replaced by a street race in Monaco.

“It is a lovely idea, but we don’t see it at the moment. If something like this came up then we would think about it, but at the moment we don’t need to,” said Aufrecht.

The Monaco race is supposed to be run with the biennial Monaco historic event, a slot that the World Touring Car Championship had been looking at earlier, but was unable to get funds for it.
