Timo Scheider wins and extends lead
The eight race of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters went to Audi-driver Timo Scheider ahead of Paul di Resta of Mercedes and reigning champion Mattias Ekström.
“That was a really important day in the battle for the title. Now, I am nine points clear with three rounds to go. That is a good margin. I am very happy with my second win,” said Scheider.
The 82 laps long race was held in changeable weather conditions. The race started dry and Scheider was able to pull up a gap early on. But as the track got damp after a short shower, di Resta was able to get closer to Scheider. But the Brit had to settle for second in his home race at Brands Hatch.
“All in all, it has been a good performance throughout the weekend and we can be happy with the result. Now, we are preparing for Barcelona. There, we should be able to do better than here,” said di Resta.
Ekström started seventh but could climb to third thanks to a good pit stop strategy by his team.
“A good weekend after all. I came here with my eyes set on victory. However, after my gearbox problem in qualifying and the subsequent seventh place on the grid, this result is all right.”
Audi Motorsport boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich was happy with the weekend.
“It was a hard and entertaining race, that of course was fun for these enthusiastic spectators. This was a DTM race as good as they come. We have improved our position in the championship with a margin of nine points, but with three races remaining, there is no way to relax. I am also happy with the fact that the race was particularly fair,” said Ullrich.
Fourth was Jamie Green, Mercedes, ahead of Martin Tomczyk, Audi and Bruno Spengler, Mercedes, in sixth.
