Kristensen on pole for Le Mans race
Tom Kristensen has taken his seventh DTM career pole position at Le Mans. It’s the second time this season the Dane will start from the front position on the grid. The last time was at the Nürburgring, where Kristensen couldn’t take advantage of his pole, after all Audi drivers were on wet tires at the start of the race, while the track was almost dry. Tomorrow there is rain predicted. “I hope we’ll make the right decision for tires”, Kristensen said after todays qualifying session.
As it has been for almost the entire weekend so far, the 2008 car drivers were unbeatable. All 2008 cars were in the top eight qualifying, leaving the 2007 and 2006 drivers to fight over the lower places. Mike Rockenfeller won that battle and will start from nineth place tomorrow. The other 2007 Audi drivers, Jarvis, Prémat and Winkelhock, will start right behind him fron 10th, 11th, 12th respectively.
Maro Engel was the fastest 2007 Mercedes driver in 13th, just ahead of Christijan Albers’ 2006 Audi. A respectable result, considering his crash from yesterday.
In top eight qualifying, Audi and Mercedes devided the grid rows evenly. Tom Kristensen finished first ahead of Mercedes driver Jamie Green. Mattias Ekström leads of row two ahead of Paul di Resta. Di Resta’s main championship rival Timo Scheider will start right behind him from fifth. Bernd Schneider will start from sixth. Bruno Spengler finished in seventh, ahead of Audi man Martin Tomczyk, who had a troublesome last session.
