Martin Tomczyk tops first Hockenheim test

The final Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters 2008 weekend at Hockenheim has begun. Martin Tomczyk started fastest by setting a lap of 1:33.881 in the first test session. Second was championship leader Timo Scheider, only 0.056 seconds behind his manufacturer colleague. Tom Kristensen set the third fastest time.

Audi-drivers Oliver Jarvis, Mike Rockenfeller and Mattias Ekström made it a Audi 1-2-3-4-5-6 in the first test.

Best Mercedes-driver was Maro Engel in a year-old Mercedes C-Class, half a second behind Tomczyk’s fastest time. Mercedes-colleauges Bruno Spengler and Bernd Schneider took eight and ninth ahead of Alexandre Prémat in tenth.

Title contender Paul di Resta only managed to set 12th best time.
