Ekström: “Mercedes are sore losers!”

Mercedes-driver Paul di Resta came only four points from the DTM-title 2008. Di Resta had a hard fight with previous champion Mattias Ekström during the first part of the final race that left the Brit fuming.
“Scheider is a worthy champion, but I am disappointed with Ekström. I’m not the person who complains after each incident, but it was not nice that he tried to push me off the track twice,” said di Resta.

Ekström held pole position but was overtaken by Scheider before the first corner. The Swede then got in to a fight with di Resta which resulted in contact between the both and a 3-second pit stop penalty for Ekström.
“There was nothing wrong with our fight! When I hear from Mercedes that they think the fight was unfair, I have to say to them: You are sore losers!”, said Ekström to TouringCarTimes.

Audi Motorsport-boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich agreed with Ekström about the fight being fair.
“I really do not think the fight was unfair! I could not see any contact between the both. That Ekström does not move over for di Resta to pass is clear, Ekström is a fighter! These situations are a normal part of racing,” said Ullrich.

Mercedes Motorsport-boss Norbert Haug had a slightly different opinion, but did not put much weight in to the question.
“Paul’s car was slightly damaged after the collision with Mattias Ekström. But it is hypothetic to guess what could have been without that problem,” said Haug.
