Paffett confident of getting new Merc

Mercedes remain quiet on the exact driver line up for the 2009 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season. But the Brit Gary Paffett says that he is going to drive a 2009 specification Mercedes C-Class.
“The future for this year looks good; there is some space freed up in a new car and it looks like I’m going to be back racing for the works team, fighting hopefully for the championship again,” said Paffett tot Autosport.

Paffett finished ninth, with one victory, in the DTM last year while driving a 2007 specification car.

The Brit admits he was frustrated driving an older car last year.

“After fighting for the championship in 2004 and 2005, I proved myself to be the best driver they’ve got,” said Paffett.

“And then to be coming back and racing in equipment that’s not really got the ability to win races, let alone the championship… it is difficult to do.”

For 2009 it seems that he will be back in a latest specification car, going for the title fight.
