No DTM for Van der Zande

Renger van der Zande won’t be racing in DTM this year. Due to the economical crisis Mercedes is forced to cut down on their DTM participation, which means there won’t be a car available for Van der Zande. The Dutch driver will continue to be supported by Mercedes Sport. “That’s just the way it is”, Van der Zande said. “We all know how difficult it is to build a serious autosport carreer when you’re from the Netherlands. Our home market is small and hasn’t got car industry.”

Van der Zande had a successfull season in Formula 3 in 2008 and had set his mind on a seat in DTM for 2009. Now he will be looking for an alternative together with Mercedes Sport. “I’m happy to be in the Mercedes system. I have to make a success of their plans for me. Luckily that doesn’t exclude that they won’t support me in 2009 when I would race in the Porsche Cup, A1GP or Le Mans Series.”

“Sport is being able to collect… and get back up again.”
