Bakkerud enjoys new 2007 Audi

Newly signed Team Kolles DTM driver, Christian Bakkerud, has just taken delivery of his newly built Audi A4 DTM. Although built to the 2007 rules, the car has just left the Audi Sport factory in Ingolstadt earlier this week. The rainy conditions at the season opener at Hockenheim didn’t leave the team much information about the car.

Suffering damage at the latest DTM test, Team Kolles decided to build an all new Audi A4 to Bakkerud. At the Friday rollout at Hockenheim, the car lapped the track in extremely wet conditions.

“The car is completely new, “ Bakkerud explains. “We are three drivers at the Team Kolles DTM team this year and due to damage during testing, Audi Sport has decided to build us a new car, and I am going to drive it this year. The car works perfectly so far.”

As newcomer to the DTM series, the young Dane had admitted to the fact that he feels relieved and revived going into a full DTM and LMS season, instead of GP2. After a full year away from the racetrack due to back problems, there is no need to motivate him.

“When I raced single seaters, my sole scope was Formula 1. But honestly, there are only 20 guys in the world racing F1, and the pressure making it there is enormous. Due to my back, I had a full year away from the racetracks, training and getting ready.”

“And now it feels like a new start! I am racing Audi sportscars and DTM cars, and I am starting a new career with Team Kolles. And honestly it feels like a load of, now it’s both fun and challenging again.”

Team Kolles will race three Audi A4 2007 cars this year; Tomas Kostka, Johannes Seidlitz and Christian Bakkerud.
