Jamie Green wins Norisring race

Jamie Green has won the DTM race at the Norisring for the second time in a row. For most of the race the only excitement came from the pit stop strategies, but in the last ten laps the drivers started to realize that attacking was the only way to overtake the leading car of Timo Scheider.

At the start of the race Timo Scheider lead into the first corner, but soon Ekström overtook him. Going into the Schöller S, Scheider took his place back, but just one corner Scheider lost it again after making a mistake in the Dutzenteich corner.

However, because the safety car was being deployed at that very moment, Mattias Ekström decided to play it safe and give back Scheider his leading position.

The safety car had to come out after Tomas Kostka touched Oliver Jarvis coming out of the Schöller S corner. Jarvis spun and went into the wall backwards. Both drivers had to retire from the race.

During the first pit stops Gary Paffett won a place to Mattias Ekström, only to lose it again after the second round of pit stops. However, because Paffett had held up Ekström for a long time, the Swede also lost places to Bruno Spengler and Jamie Green.

For a long time it looked like it was going to be a parade to the flag, but as Scheider started to develop problems under braking for the Grundig Kehre, Spengler was able to put more pressure on the race leader.

After several attempts, five laps from the end he finally succeeded by taking Scheider at the Dutzenteich corner. But because of the low down force and thus the high top speed of the Audi, Scheider was able to get back past Spengler in the Grundig Kehre.

Spengler even went a little wide, allowing Jamie Green to get ahead.

With two laps to go, Green decided he could do a better job at overtaking than his team mate had done and passed Scheider for the lead in the Schöller S. Scheider slid wide and had to let pass Spengler and Ekström as well.

Jamie Green didn’t allow anyone to come near him on the final lap and he took the victory, the first win for a 2008 car this year.
