Mattias Ekström not satisfied with third

Double Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters champion Mattias Ekström was right in the thick of the entertaining fight for the win at Norisring during the past weekend. The Swede finished third but was not satisfied.
“I am okay with the result, but I am no satisfied,” said Ekström on his website.

Ekström has for a long time been chasing a win at the legendary Norisring race.

“Year after year I have been going to Norisring with a will to win. This year was the same and today, the day after, I have once again had a podium but no win.”

Team mate Timo Scheider was leading the race towards the end, before getting passed by four cars, but was passed by Ekström in the first part of the race.

“Timo made a mistake in the last corner and I could pass him. Then I got told to let Timo past on the start/finish straight as the green flag came out. Grrrr…” said Ekström.

Ekström was after the pitstops far behind the leaders but could close quickly thanks to the fight ahead.

“In the end I was on the tail of Spengler and I had a try in to turn one. It didn’t work out sadly,” said Ekström.

Next up for the DTM is Zandvoort on July the 19th.
