Oliver Jarvis turned his practice pace into a pole position time which saw him over half a second clear of second placed Gary Paffett. Jarvis had earlier set the fastest practice time in his year-old Audi A4, and he duly converted this into a stunning lap which clinched pole for Sundays race.

Bruno Spengler qualified third to keep the pressure on Paffett as the pair will duel it out to try and take the championship lead heading into the Oschersleben round.

Current points leader, Timo Scheider, endured a poor qualifying session. Not only did he suffer a minor collision in the pits, when contact was made with Katherine Legge, but he would only manage 11th place on the grid after expecting to run well this weekend.

Fresh from victory at the Norisring, Jamie Green qualified his Junge Sterne AMG Mercedes in 7th, and will be hoping for a good points haul this weekend to bolster his title aspirations.

Tom Kristensen’s practice pace wasn’t taken into qualifying as the Dane could only manage 10th, behind Mattias Ekström.

Jarvis has had a bad start to the 2009 DTM season which had started with much promise with 3rd place at Hockenheim, but was quickly followed up by two retirements. He will be looking to use this pole position to kick start his championship assault.
