Audi pleased with dominance
Audi set about claiming their 50th victory in the DTM in the perfect way during qualifying today, by filling seven of the top eight places on the grid. Tom Kristensen claimed pole position for Audi on one of his favoured circuits in the DTM.
The pole-sitter thanked his team for giving him a “perfectly prepared” car for the weekend, and said that it was a “nice feeling” to have the pole position in a very close and competitive series.
Timo Scheider will start alongside Kristensen on the first row for tomorrow’s race, and last years champion described Audi’s dominance as a “cohesive team performance“.
“I’m personally very happy with my qualifying, but the Audi squad can be especially proud of this outstanding result”, is the view of Martin Tomczyk. The Red Bull Cola Audi endured a difficult start to the season, but claimed a great 4th place at Zandvoort.
Audi Sport Team Abt Lady Power driver, Katherine Legge, was one of the Audi driver’s who did not enjoy the qualifying session, “qualifying, unfortunately, was a disaster” she stated. She also added that Maro Engel had obstructed her during her second qualifying attempt.
The Team Director of Audi Sport Team Phoenix, Ernst Moser, which run Oliver Jarvis and Alexandre Prémat, hailed the performances of his drivers. He admitted that the 2009 cars had the advantage, but was pleased with how his year-old cars kept pace, “following behind them is definitely a super result”.
The Head of Audi Motorsport, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, summed up the overall performance of his cars by simply stating that it is “a great day for Audi”.
