Freezed rules confirmed for 2010

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters organization today announced that they are going to freeze the rules for 2010, as we reported one month ago. The cars are going to be more or less identical to the ones of this season.
“We have compiled the content of the 2010 DTM regulations in a close co-operation with the persons in charge at Audi and Mercedes-Benz and experienced a very professional approach”, said DMSB-chairman Torsten Johne.

After the DTM finale at Nürburgring the DMSB, German Motorsport Authority, is going to photograph reference parts from all manufacturers.

This will be done in order to have a base for technical inspections during the 2010 season.

Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug is pleased with the decision.

“The manufacturers have pushed to come to this freezing of technology and achieved this in co-operation with the DMSB and the ITR. The way in which Christian Schacht, secretary-general of the DMSB, DMSB chairman Torsten Johne and ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht have committed themselves is exemplary,” said Haug.

Audi Motorsport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich is equally pleased.

“As new technical regulations are being envisaged for 2011 which are meant to make it easier for other car manufacturers to enter the DTM, freezing the technology for the 2010 season is an absolutely sensible way which helps to continue saving money in a significant way,” said Ullrich.

There is still no official word on how the new rules for the 2011 season is going to look.

The major change is supposed to be a uniform monococque for all cars with more or less only the body shell and engine being different between the cars. The aerodynamics are reported to be significantly reduced as well.
