Similar weights for Audi and Mercedes

The Detusche Tourenwagen Masters is heading to legendary Nürburgring this weekend for the sixth race of the year. For this race Mercedes have got their weight lowered, making them almost equal on weight to Audi. This is something Paul Di Resta is glad over.
“I’m happy that I can get rid of some of my additional weight for the Nürburgring round, following the result at Oschersleben,” said Di Resta to the official championship site.

“So, the fans may look forward to extremely close racing and enthralling battles on the track.”

Di Resta is currently fifth in the championship while his fellow Mercedes driver Gary Paffett is leading the championship ahead of Audi rivals Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider.

Audi Motorsport boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich comments the matter of the changing penalty weights.

“For the motor-racing enthusiasts, there isn’t anything better than a championship were the gap between the championship leaders is as close as in DTM,” said Ullrich.

“Due to the changing handicap weights, both camps have to cope with ups and downs from race to race – resulting in changing situations at the front end of the field.”
