Scheider takes second win of the season

Timo Scheider has extended his championship lead by winning the eighth race of the season at Barcelona, Spain. The Audi driver made a great start from fifth on the grid and led into the first corner. Pole sitter Tom Kristensen took second place, while Martin Tomczyk made it an all Audi podium by finishing in third.

The other contenders in the championship, Gary Paffett and Mattias Ekström had a difficult afternoon. Both weren’t able to keep up with the pace at the front and had to fight for the places behind the top three.

After both drivers made their pitstop Paffett was ahead of Ekström in fourth, but the latter was seemingly quicker on his fresher tires. However, Ekström was not able to make a real move on the Briton, and soon Bruno Spengler joined the fight.

On the penultimate lap Ekström tries to make a move on Paffett, but fails in doing so. Spengler takes advantage and overtakes the Swede for fifth.

Even though Ekström is still in second in the standings, he now has a twelve point gap between him and Timo Scheider. Gary Paffett is still in third, two points behind Ekström.
