Audi unable to explain punctures
Audi Motorsport have been unable to identify the cause of the punctures which unsettled the race at Dijon-Prenois, and handed Mercedes-Benz a top 5 lock out.
Gary Paffett now trails Audi driver Timo Scheider by seven points, and heads in to the season finale in position to attack for the championship.
Audi boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich said:
“Five punctures in one race aren’t normal. Above all, that doesn’t help us winning the championship. All cars had the same set-up and after warm-up, there weren’t any indications for possible problems.”
Norbert Haug is still denying that Mercedes are back in the hunt after Gary Paffett’s victory – with the British driver now seven points adrift of Audi’s Timo Scheider. If Paffett wins at the last round of Hockenheim, and Scheider finishes no higher than 6th, than Paffett can take his second title.
“I am still convinced that the battle for the title is already over for us,” said Norbert
“Today, we have scored a five-way victory. We were just cleverer and our opponents had to cope with setbacks.”
The final race of the season takes place in two weeks at the Hockenheim circuit.
