Audi say new rules must go in 2011
Audi Motorsport boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich say that the new rules for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters must go ahead in 2011.
“The rules are made to be useable in 2011. We shouldn’t try to push them later. We should have them ready and available,” said Ullrich to Autosport.
The DTM is currently negotiating with the Japanese Super GT series for a possible merger of the rules. Information has risen that the introduction of the new rules could be delayed to 2012 because of this.
But despite the possible delay because of the Japanese flirt, Ullrich is positive about an eventual merger.
“It is something I am not involved in, but it is interesting to see if things could be used in a common way,” said Ullrich.
While the two series are working together, the final result might not be one set of rules, but rather an equivalency formula. This indicates that the new DTM car might not be that different from the cars of today.
“The basic concept of the car is a very good one and is something we didn’t want to change,” said Ullrich.
The reason for the co-operation with the Super GT series is to make it easier and more attractive for new manufacturers to enter the series.
“The new rules are of interest to manufacturers and we have contacts, but it is difficult times. The interest is there, but we will not be talking about it because it could be negative,” said Ullrich.
