Mercedes negotiations for Coulthard and Schumacher
Mercedes are yet to confirm whether Ralf Schumacher is going to continue in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. But according to Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug, the deal is close.
“I think that we have come close to making a decision. The decision will be announced as soon as it has been made. Currently, however, the deal is not yet home and dry,” said Haug to DTM.tv.
While the deal is not closed yet, there seems to be no question about Schumacher’s will to continue.
“Ralf would like to continue his DTM career and we also think that the chances of continuing our cooperation look promising,” said Haug.
Another former Formula One driver that has been linked with Mercedes in the DTM is David Coulthard. The Scot has performed a number of tests in a DTM Mercedes C-Class recently.
“We had agreed on these tests as early as during his days as Formula 1 driver. He just should drive a DTM car,” said Haug.
According to Haug, Mercedes and Coulthard are currently working on a deal.
“He did a good job and also had a lot of fun and so, we now are talking about possibilities to find a solution. Maybe there will be a positive surprise but at this point in time, I can’t make any promises,” said Haug.
