David Coulthard fastest Mercedes driver at Valencia

While Alexandre Prémat topped the morning session of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters test at Valencia, all eyes were on former Formula One driver David Coulthard – fastest of the Mercedes drivers. The Scot lapped the track in 1:29.476, circa seven tenths slower than Prémat.

Audi dominated the first part of the test, with the top three places in their possession.

Mattias Ekström was second fastest, three tenths behind and reigning champion Timo Scheider in third, just 0.029 seconds behind the Swede.

Coulthard stopped it from becoming Audi 1-2-3-4, by beating Markus Winkelhock with two tenths.

Bruno Spengler was fastest of the regular Mercedes drivers in seventh position, circa one second slower than Prémat. Ralf Schumacher was seventh fastest ahead of Susie Stoddart.

Chinese driver Cong Fu Cheng was present at the test. Cheng lapped the track in 1:30.463, 1.6 seconds from the fastest time of the session.
