Tomczyk loses second place due to tyre error

Martin Tomczyk has been stripped of his second place finish at Valencia due to an incorrect tyre being fitted to his Audi A4.

After qualifying, the team was required to designate a set of tyres that Martin would no longer be using as a result of not progressing the final qualifying sessions, as the Audi driver only qualified 9th.

A mistake during one of his mandatory pitstops meant one of these tyres was placed on his car in error. In accordance with the rules, Tomczyk has been excluded from the result, which elevates Bruno Spengler to second, and Alexandre Prémat to third.

Audi have said it was a clerical error and won’t be appealing the decision.
