Ekström to test NASCAR for Red Bull

Double Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters champion Mattias Ekström is going to test for the NASCAR Red Bull Racing Team.
“It’s no secret that the NASCAR series fascinates me. It’s been a long-harbored dream of mine to drive such a car,” said Ekström.

The Swede is going to test at Virginia International Raceway today alonsgide regular driver Scott Speed.

Ekström is going to drive the #83 car which is usually driven by regular driver Brian Vickers. But Vickers is unable to drive the car for the rest of the season due to medical reasons.

“With Brian Vickers sidelined for the rest of the season, we needed a road-racing expert to help prepare the #83 for Sonoma. We appreciate Mattias’ willingness to help out and we look forward to his insight,” said the team’s vice president Jay Frye.

The race at Sonoma is on the 20th of June, a date which does not collide with Ekström’s DTM schedule.
